Recommended Cameras

I thought I’d start off this series with my view of the different cameras out there and recommend, in my experience, the best cameras to get you all started into serious photography. I do strongly suggest that you try holding and using a camera before you buy one as they can handle very differently and you may prefer the placing of Canon’s controls rather than Nikon’s. First off though, cameras have nothing to do with taking great pictures. To take great pictures, you have to know how to take great pictures. If you know what you’re doing, all a better camera does is make it easier, faster and more convenient to take great pictures. If you want to take better pictures, your efforts are better spent learning how to take better pictures, not in buying new cameras. Forget Resolution and ISO Resolution and ISO are silly numbers used to try to sell you more expensive cameras. Resolution, expressed in mega-pixels, hasn’t been relevant since the 1990s. I’ve made great 12 x 18″ (30 x 45cm) prints from a 3MP camera, and 40×60″ (100 x 150cm) prints from a 6MP camera. 6 Mega-pixels is all anyone needs for anything, and every camera here has two or three times that today. Now that every camera has double-digit mega-pixels, camera makers invented another meaningless number they use to extract more money from the innocent, called ISO (pronounced eye-ess-oh). ISO is a rough measure of low-light sensitivity. It only matters if you shoot in the dark, and then shoot without flash. As soon as your flash pops up, the higher ISO aren’t used anyway. Even if you learn how to use the higher ISO settings, there isn’t much difference between cameras of the same type and era, regardless of cost. All the higher ISO settings do is make the picture look grainier, and the cameras that sport the highest ISO settings look horrible at those settings! This said, a DSLR is a zillion times better in the dark than point-and shoots, and the newest point-and-shoots like the Canon S95 and Canon S100 are superb for use at night without flash as well. Don’t buy a camera because a salesman tries to smoke you with gibberish like mega-pixels or ISO. ISO and mega-pixels have nothing more to do with a camera’s quality than the number of spot-welds used to assemble your car. Entry Level - The Canon G12 The Canon G12 is a favourite of many photographers. It has the same sensor and guts as my favourite Canon S95, in a bigger, tougher, more expensive body with a slower lens. The photos from the G12 are the same as from the Canon S95, and just like all compact cameras, it’s too slow for photos of anything that moves. That said, the G12 is so good that I’d never miss carrying larger SLR for scenic, landscape and travel shots. I don’t know of any photographer who wouldn’t love one of these. Good - The Nikon D7000 I recommend this because it’s simply an amazing camera. If this was my first camera, I would have been in hog heaven! It will last you many years, and you’ll be able to add more lenses over time. Not only does it shoot at 16 mega-pixels, but it also can record an HD movie with autofocus. Once you begin using one camera to take photos and video, you’ll never go back to using two devices. This photo also has the latest sensor, so it takes extraordinary photos in low-light conditions. Too expensive? Are you looking for a good camera that also does video? Then check out one of my other recommendations — the Nikon D90 with excellent starter lens. Better - The Nikon D700 Now we are getting more serious! This is definitely a professional-grade camera. It’s big and tough and ready for battle. It’s got an amazing full-frame sensor — which means it...

Shark Night 3D – Our official review Dec16

Shark Night 3D – Our official review

Overview and plot 7 American college students, plan to spend the weekend at a lake house on a small island in the Louisiana Gulf. As they arrive on the main land, they bump into an old flame (Chris Carmack – Luke from the OC) of Sara’s (Sara Paxton – Last house on the left) with a history of Sara leaving the area three years ago leaving him with a nice scar on his face, after him picking a fight with the group, they leave on a boat for the island vacation home, ready for the weekend of there life. The weekend starts like any vacation weekend, with beer and women in bikini’s not Known to them that a innocent bit of fun on a boat in the lake, would start to unravel a plot that turns the fun loving weekend into there worst nightmare. After one of the group gets injured they decide to attempt to get him to the local hospital, but blood dripping from the wound, is about to bring down all hopes of getting away from the lake house and getting there friend some help. Attracting a large Tiger shark to attack the boat and leaving them to swim for shore in the sharks path. But this is only the beginning of the terrifying story, when after working out how the shark got into the lake they realize that the help that arrives is not the help they are seeking, when some local shark diving enthusiasts decide to make “Jaws” cross “snuff” movie, with the groups lives at stake. With the nice collection of sharks including, Tiger sharks, cookie cutters, hammer-heads and great white’s there does not look like much hope for the college vacationers. A weekend at a lake house in the Louisiana Gulf turns into a nightmare for seven vacationers as they are subjected to shark attacks. – IMDB What we thought of Shark Night With a few known faces in the cast, this creature feature was a nice bit of fun with a few scares and jumps on the way. With the story starting of with meeting the 7 main characters at college, you know that the was going to be drinking and half naked women involved. Not to mention people doing foolish things like going in the water when you know what is going to happen if they venture into the shallows. The story was simple but it worked and they unlikely hero played up to the part, the plot seemed realistic but I’m sure sharks dont jump out of the water to catch there prey in mid air (correct me if I’m wrong). The CGI was good but it had not advanced much from the 1999 movie “Deep blue sea“, but at least the animatronics had improved from the 1970′s lol. A scene with a college football star with one arm, a spear and an 8ft Hammer-head shark seemed a little unreal to me, but its a monster movie at the end of the day and they all need a bit of comedy. It was nice to see that they had thought about what sharks to introduce into the movie, from small cookie cutters to the famous Great white and ways to kill of the cast. The movie was very enjoyable to watch, it was just a shame that the final shark was taken out as easy as it was and the crediting scene was very similar to 2010 creature movie “Piranha“, over all not a bad film it is not going to have the impact of the original shark movie “Jaws” back in the mid 70′s but not many will. The official...
